Ego is the enemy (Ryan Holiday)
The book that changed my life.
As I said at the summary of 'Mindset (by: Dr Carol S. Dweck)' this is the book that changed my life (I have linked the summary in a button at the bottom of this summary). I started this book just like any other, but it soon turned into a life lesson. The book has a lot in common with 'Mindset', the difference is that Holiday explains that the fixed mindset comes from your ego. Before I read this book I thought I really was something and that I knew a lot, but I was wrong. This book tells how ego destroys every phase of getting succesfull (Aspiration, Succes and Failure). Holiday does that with examples from philosophers to modern day CEO's. I really can't explain everything said in this book in this short summary, but in short it says that if you want to give the world value, you shouldn't want credit, money or fame for it, because it will slow you down in everything. The same goes for quotes, it is just too much That is why I linked a site with the top quotes from this book. But the selfvieuw is only a part of why this book changed me. The other part is that it made me come in contact with the stoic philosophy. When I first read about in in this book I didn't know what it was. But after reading about it it was sold. By the time you read this my book list is probably full of stoic books because of this book. If you want to know more about the stoic philosophy I have linked the site of the writer of this book in a button down below as well.
