Mindset (Dr Carol S. Dweck)
As the title suggests this book is about the different mindsets people may have. In particular the 'growth mindset' and the 'fixed mindset'. This book really put me back in my place of thinking that I am more then I really am (together ofcourse with Ego is the enemy, which is in my life the most important book so far). The fixed mindset says that you either are intelligent, talented, atractive or you are not. It sees all those things as 'fixed'. The writer explains how this is untrue, and uses real life examples of why it is. A few disadvantages of the fixed mindset is that (1) you don't put effort in getting better at something if it is fixed anyway, (2) you won't let people help you because you 'already know everything', (3) you avoid difficult tasks because it might prove that you are 'not as smart as you thought'. In the growth mindset all of the above can be seen as opportunities to grow and 'get smarter'. Getting this insight changed how I look at myself, I can always keep growing! Dweck says this like this: "The mind is just like a muscle - the more you exercise it, the stronger it gets and the more it can expand". The book also has a graphic summary which I have put on my wall, I linked it down below if you are interested.
